Construction brings South Macon one step closer to broadband service

The effort to connect all of Macon County to the internet made big strides last month when construction began on the South Macon backbone, a fiber project that will bring online access to some of the least connected parts of the county.

Macon County employees are in for a treat with a new premium pay policy that will supplement their salaries for years to come. The Macon County Board of Commissioners adopted the plan at the October meeting in an effort to maximize the county’s appeal as a place to work.

REACH teaches self-defense

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, REACH of Macon County ended October with their first free self-defense class, led by violence prevention education coordinator Elijah Ingraham. Though billed as a self-defense class, Ingraham doesn’t think that term sends the right message.

The Town of Franklin is following the county’s lead and will use part of its American Rescue Plan Act funds to give employee bonuses in appreciation for their dedication during the COVID pandemic. “They’ve been at it since March.
