The Macon County Housing Department installed a ramp to accommodate the homeowner’s accessibility needs; the top photo shows the home’s entrance prior to the ramp’s construction. The Healthy Homes initiative will fund home repairs for low-income families. The county’s housing department, Macon Program for Progress and the Highlands Rotary Club received grants totaling $145,000 to make home improvements.

Adam Kimsey (left), who previously served on the town council, was appointed Monday to fill the two years remaining on Jack Horton’s term after Horton was elected mayor in November. Kimsey will take office in January.
