Highlands School heating mistake ‘unacceptable’

Recent tensions and finger-pointing between Macon County Schools officials and Highlands School construction officials regarding project specifics have led to blunt questions and demands to fix those issues.

Commissioners delay action on animal control position

A request to transition funding to hire an animal shelter attendant got stonewalled by the Macon County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 10, with one commissioner suggesting the county should divest from animal control due to what he feels is animal services’ ineffectiveness.

Teacher charged with having gun on campus

An East Franklin Elementary fourth-grade teacher is facing a felony charge for allegedly bringing a firearm to campus. According to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, on Dec. 12 a school resource officer reported an employee had brought a firearm to East Franklin Elementary.

94-Year-Old keeps up Christmas light tradition

At 607 Rabbit Creek Road, people can drive by between the hours of 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. through December to see the area’s best Christmas light shows. And this year’s display could be one of the last ones.

School Board approves capital outlay requests

Resurfacing the Mountain View Intermediate parking lot and adding carpet to Macon Middle School are two of the 14 capital outlay changes the Macon County Board of Education unanimously approved Monday, Dec. 2.

Two fatalities in high-speed wrecks

A woman fleeing police and a motorcyclist died in separate wrecks in Franklin over the last week with law enforcement suspecting alcohol playing a role in both. On the night of Thursday, Dec. 5, the Franklin Police Department was called to the Georgia Road Ingles at 10:16 p.m.

County Commissioners hope to shorten meetings

A special meeting on Dec. 2 to approve a new board chair and vice chair included a discussion about possibly adding a second monthly meeting to the Macon County Board of Commissioners’ schedule.
