Kenneth Elkins, a U.S. Army veteran, has created a museum and large American flag as a tribute to his fallen comrades and United States veterans. Elkins has been a woodworker for about 50 years, learning the craft from his father and then taking courses over the years.

Board pauses East Franklin School project

In a vote called one of the most difficult decisions they’ve made, the Macon County Board of Education voted during its May 3 budget retreat to pause awarding a bid for the $3.5 million East Franklin Elementary project.

Council looks at $10.9 million budget

The Franklin Town Council received the first draft of its 2023-24 budget during the monthly meeting Monday night. Town Manager Amie Owens said the budget will allow the town to continue a baseline of operations with no new services.
