James Henry Verran, Sr.

FRANKIN – James Henry Verran, Sr., 91, passed away Sept. 28, 2021. He was born in Akron, Ohio, on March 15, 1930. He served in the U.S. Army as well as the U.S. Air Force. He was a school teacher and later received his building contractor’s license.

Richard Weaver

FRANKLIN – Richard “Dick” Weaver, 80, of Franklin went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 25, 2021. Richard better known as Dick was born in Rochester, New York, to the late Peter and Margery Tacy Weaver. Mr. Weaver served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era.

Billy Lee Sowards

FRANKLIN – Billy Lee Sowards, 82, passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021. A military service was held Oct.  4, 2021, in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home. Burial will follow on Oct. 12 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.

FRANKLIN– Robert (Bob) Joseph Smith, 82, passed into Glory on Aug.24, 2021, in Carrollton, Texas.

Kaleb Leavy Pitts

FRANKLIN – Kaleb Leavy Pitts, infant son of Kevin and Jenny Pitts, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. A celebration of life will be 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, at Cowee Baptist Church. Macon Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Freda Brewer Owens

FRANKLIN –Freda Brewer Owens, of Franklin, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021. Freda was born in Macon County to the late Thomas Eugene Brewer and Hazel Irene Henry. Freda adored her family and was the caregiver for her grandchildren.

James Ware McCallum Jr.

FRANKLIN – James Ware McCallum Jr., age 79, of Franklin, North Carolina, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at Angel Medical Center in Franklin after a brief battle with COVID.  He was a native of Montgomery County, a 1960 graduate of Montgomery County High School and served in the Army National Guard.
