Fire burns 50 acres

A fire on March 4 burned more than 50 acres along the Dillard Road. District Ranger Benjamin Keener said the call came in just before 3 p.m. with multiple agencies responding including N.C. Forest Service, U.S. Forest Service, Georgia Forestry Division, Scaly Mountain Fire Department, Otto Fire and Rescue, and Rabun County Station 5. A plane and helicopter provided aerial support in fighting the fire. The blaze crossed state lines with 50 acres burning in North Carolina and eight in Georgia. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Keener said the rain expected this week will help improve the dry conditions. He encourages people to wait until it is raining or after it rains to burn outdoor debris.
