COVID-19 booster vaccinations for immunocompromised individuals will be available beginning Thursday, Aug. 26, according to Macon County Public Health. Other dates for the boosters include Sept. 2, Sept. 9 and Sept. 16.
The boosters are only for immunocompromised people who have completed two doses of Moderna or Pfizer vaccines at least 28 days prior to the booster. Currently, there is not an approved booster vaccine for Johnson and Johnson. If you received Pfizer for your first two doses, you should receive Pfizer for the booster dose and the same applies for Moderna.
Individuals requesting the booster vaccinations will be asked to sign an attestation stating the following health conditions apply:
• Receiving active cancer treatment
• Received an organ transplant and are taking medications to suppress their immune system
• Received a stem cell transplant within the last two years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
• Moderate to severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome or Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
• Advanced or untreated HIV infection
• Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress immune system
