As of next week, Franklin High School will be without a permanent principal.
The Macon County Board of Education approved the transfer of Michael “Mickey” Noe from FHS principal to Chief Academic Officer/Federal Programs Director in the main office, effective Sunday, Oct. 1.
Noe will split his time between the high school and the central office until his replacement is named, according to Renee Burt, executive assistant to the superintendent and clerk to the board.
Interviews for the FHS principal position are ongoing, according to the MCS personnel report. Burt said an interim principal will not be named, and they hope to have a name to present to the board by the Oct. 16 meeting.
Noe has been the FHS principal since July 2021. He was hired in May 2021 to replace Barry Woods, who retired after eight years.
Before coming to FHS, Noe served as principal of The Oaks Academy in Cherokee Mountain and previously as principal of Hayesville High School, Hayesville Middle School and Hayesville Elementary School in Clay County. Noe’s education career began in Orlando in 1995.
The next Board of Education meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16 at Cartoogechaye School.
