A total of 4,461 Macon County students headed back to school on Monday, Aug. 26 for the first day of the 2024-25 school year.
Superintendent Josh Lynch, who is visiting all 11 schools this year, described the first day as “phenomenal” and “fantastic.” Lynch said it was heartwarming to see the efforts of faculty and staff come together to welcome the students back and complimented the smiling faces, enthusiasm and energy he saw.
Lynch said enrollment will continue to increase as parents enroll their students through the first couple of weeks.
After their first full week back in the classroom, students and teachers will get a day off on Monday, Sept. 2 for the Labor Day holiday.
The Macon County Board of Education will hold their next meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30 at Highlands School.
