Death ruled as homicide

A medical examiner has determined Nathan Humphries’ death was a homicide. The cause of death is listed as asphyxiation due to neck compression. Humphries, 30, died on Jan. 1, 2023, following an altercation at a home on Stiwinter Mountain Road.

Town approves lease for No Wrong Door

Franklin High School work continues

By a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner John Shearl against it, the Macon County Board of Commissioners approved $20,000 for analysis and data projects for the proposed Franklin High School project.

Centennial Park work delayed

A section of the Little Tennessee River Greenway that has been closed could likely soon see work done to repair and reopen it. The river has undercut a section of the trail at Centennial Park, where the trail splits into two for a few hundred feet.

Skatepark nears completion

Work on the new skatepark is nearing completion and the Town of Franklin hopes to have a ribbon cutting for the park in September. Franklin Town Manager Amie Owens and Streets Supervisor Chris Waldroop gave an update on the park during the Aug. 7 Town Council meeting.

Town Council approves rezoning

The Franklin Town Council approved rezoning five residential areas but will ask the Planning Board to further study the area along Old Murphy Road that was also recommended for rezoning.

Board sets 2023 municipal election schedule

The Macon County Board of Elections approved the plan for the 2023 municipal elections during its July 18 meeting, According to Macon County Board of Elections Director Melanie Thibault, early voting will start Thursday, Oct. 19 and continue through Saturday, Nov. 4.
