An Iotla Valley teacher was suspended for an alleged assault on a student, but law enforcement won’t file any charges.
According to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged assault occurred on Tuesday, Oct. 24, and was reported the next day, Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Macon County Schools confirmed the central office received word on the incident on Oct. 25 and they reported it to the MCSO the same day.
There was an incident report filed at 1:50 p.m. on Oct. 25 by MCSO Student Resource Officer Eric Duvall at 1166 Iotla Church Road, the site of Iotla Valley School. The offense listed is an “investigation.”
“An investigation was launched and after our agency reviewed evidence, video footage was turned over to the District Attorney’s Office,” MCSO stated on Friday, Oct. 27. “Upon review, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office with the District Attorney’s office has decided not to pursue criminal charges on the teacher in question based on the findings in the footage.”
On Oct. 27, MCS said, “We can confirm that the teacher in question has been suspended.”
In response to a follow-up inquiry about the status of the teacher after the sheriff’s office said no charges would be filed, MCS said there had not been any change in the teacher’s employment status.
