One person died in a four-car wreck on Georgia Road on Oct. 20. The N.C. State Highway Patrol is still investigating the wreck.
Trooper Courtney Barker said the incident was called in at 4:05 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, from the northern town limits of Otto along Georgia Road, looking south from the Eller & Owens furniture store.
According to Barker, there was one death. The name of the person was not released due to the investigation still being open as of press time Tuesday. Barker confirmed that the person was dead on the scene.
Macon County Emergency Services Director Warren Cabe confirmed three others were transported by Macon County and Rabun County ambulances and classified two of the hospitalized as having serious injuries. Cabe also said there were two others who refused medical transport.
An extensive debris field was visible, although Macon County Sheriff’s Office vehicles blocked off most of the scene.
Further details about what caused the wreck are still being investigated, Barker said. The NCSHP’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was to meet after press time Tuesday to piece together what happened.
The incident caused long traffic backups going both directions on Georgia Road until 8:30 p.m. when the road fully reopened.
