The Macon County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested Christopher Allen Laws, 53 of Franklin, on charges of second degree murder and concealment of a death, on Saturday, April 19. Laws is currently being held without bond and the incident remains under investigation.
Deputies responded to a report about a possible homicide on April 19, coming from a third party at approximately 2:15 p.m., according to MCSO Major Jonathan Phillips. Deputies went to Laws’ residence on Omega Hills Road, where they found “a scene consistent with the information provided.”
Deputies detained Laws and were later able to locate the remains of Rolando Duvergel, 28 of Franklin.
Phillips said the incident took place between the evening of April 18 and the morning of April 19. Duvergel’s cause of death has yet to be determined via autopsy, and details on how his body was disposed of, the relationship between him and the accused and Laws’ alleged motive have yet to be released.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist with the crime scene.
Laws was being held in the Macon County Detention Center without bond. His court date was set for May 8.
