A Franklin man died after his moped was involved in a wreck with a pickup truck on Highlands Road on Tuesday, Nov. 19, according to a N.C. Highway Patrol report.
Gavin Johnson, 21, was airlifted to Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Johnson was traveling west on Highlands Road when the moped he was driving collided with a truck.
Macon County EMS received a 911 call at 9:04 a.m. The MAMA helicopter was dispatched from Angel Medical Center and landed in the parking lot of Cullasaja Assembly of God church to transport Johnson to Mission.
“The individual did die as a result of the collision,” said Trooper Rico Stephens.
The Highway Patrol has not released the name of the other driver, who was reportedly not injured in the wreck. No charges have been filed.
“At this time, the wreck is still under investigation,” Stephens said.
Macon County EMS and Cullasaja Fire and Rescue also responded to the wreck.
