A woman who escaped custody after being sentenced to jail on Nov. 19 was back in court Friday.
Kaitlin Fitzgibbons, 27, was given secured bonds totaling $200,000 for a charge of felony escape and two separate probation violations during an appearance in Macon County Superior Court.
Fitzgibbons was being escorted by a detention officer to a Macon County Sheriff’s Office transport van after receiving fourth-month jail term for felony larceny when she ran. Initial attempts to locate her failed, but she was captured Thursday, Nov. 21 at a residence off Arthur Drake Road.
Judge William Coward set her bond at $100,000 on a charge of Class H felony escape and added another $100,000 bond for violating probation.
Coward also increased the probation period on the felony larceny charge from 24 month to 36 months, and added a $5,000 fine and 100 hours of community service.
He also ordered Fitzgibbons to write an essay titled “100 things for which I am grateful.”
“I hope this is a lesson for you, Ms. Fitzgibbons,” Coward said. “You’re a young woman with a lot of potential. You can throw your life away with a bunch of users, or you can make something of your life. It’s all up to you.”
