Veterans marched up Main Street Tuesday for Franklin’s annual Veterans Day parade and ceremony. The veterans were led by a color guard and sorted according to service era by Scouts from Troops 202 and 4202 and Pack 263. Residents watching along the route thanked and applauded for veterans as they passed by.
The Veterans Day ceremony saw a speech from Col. Stephen Armes, U.S. Marine Corps retired, and awards and recognitions given to veterans and veterans programs. The White Sisters (Teresa Holland, Tamara Deal and Tammy Drinnon) sang renditions of “God Bless America” and “America the Beautiful.”
Paul Shepherd, a 98-year-old WWII veteran, was recognized as the oldest living veteran in Macon County. Kenneth Bishop, a 97-year-old Korea veteran, was also recognized as the second-oldest but was unable to attend.
