Bradley Monteith, 24, of Franklin was killed after his vehicle was struck by an unsecured load from a commercial truck Thursday, June 5, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The collision took place on Old Murphy Road.
Kelvin Harris, 61 of Douglasville, Georgia, was driving a commercial two-axle Mack for American Insulated Glass west along Old Murphy Road. Shortly after 10 a.m., an unsecured glass panel fell and struck Monteith’s white 1988 pickup, which was traveling east. Monteith was driven off the road and into a creek, according to Sgt. Brody Crawford of the Highway Patrol.
Harris was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to secure a load and was released on $2,500 secured bond. Harris’ first hearing is scheduled to take place on Sept. 3.
Monteith was a graduate of Franklin High School and was on his way to work when the wreck occurred. His family shared on Facebook that a memorial/celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 21, from 1-4 p.m. at Parker Meadows. In case of rain, it will be held at the Robert Carpenter Community Building.
