On Flag Day, June 14, American Legion Post 108 held a flag retirement ceremony with more than 400 flags burned, which is considered the proper disposal of U.S. flags that are no longer suitable for display.
The largest flag was a 40’x60’ one brought in by a truck from Countryside Chevrolet; they retire two flags each year. Prior to the ceremony, the Ladies Auxiliary prepared breakfast.
Flags for disposal can be dropped off at the mailbox in front of the American Legion, located at 614 W. Main St. The next retirement ceremony will be held on Pearl Harbor Day, Sunday, Dec. 7.
