Hundreds of children and their families ran onto the field at South Macon Elementary School after a helicopter dropped plastic Easter eggs as part of LifeSpring Community Church’s annual event on Saturday, March 28. Children also enjoyed pony rides, a petting zoo, food and games.
Also on Saturday, Franklin High School’s Agriculture Department raised money for the Macon County Historical Museum with a photo shoot. Teachers and volunteers set up shop at the cabin next to the museum to welcome visitors and collect donations. For a donation of $5, visitors could hold, pet and take photos with a collection of “easter bunnies,” both newborn and adult rabbits or with the agriculture department’s baby lamb.
On March 31, the Interact Club hosted Exceptional Children students from Sherri Houston’s class for an Easter celebration at Parker Meadows. The club provided gift baskets filled with Easter goodies and spread eggs around the park. The EC students paired up with club members and shared a meal of pizza and cupcakes, dancing, games and an egg hunt throughout the park.
On Saturday, April 4, Down the Rabbit Hole will have an “Easter Eggstravaganza” with a children’s egg dash at 11 a.m. (bring a basket) and shoppers can enjoy free popcorn. Located at 5040 Highlands Road.
Stations of the Cross
• Snow Hill United Methodist Church will host a self-guided Stations of the Cross that allows people to take a spiritual pilgrimage reflecting on Jesus’s suffering and sacrifice during his final hours. Each station depicts a specific event and invites pause, reflection, meditation and prayer. This is a journey that allows believers to accompany Jesus in his suffering, emphasizing God’s love and the forgiveness of sins. Times: Thursday, April 2, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Friday, April 3, 3-6 p.m. and Saturday, April 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Location: 330 Snow Hill Rd.
• “Remember Me: A Walk-Through Maundy Thursday Experience,” will be held at Franklin First United Methodist Church on April 2. Attendees will move between stations that teach about the events that occurred during the final hours before Jesus’ crucifixion. Timeslots for the experience begin at 5:15 p.m.; to sign up time call 828-524-3010. Location: 66 Harrison Ave.
Good Friday service
The community-wide Good Friday service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 12 p.m. April 3. The hour-long service will include several pastors exploring the promise of redemption through the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus from a variety of ecumenical perspectives. Community Easter sunrise service
An outdoor community Easter sunrise service will be held at in the First United Methodist Church cemetery at 7 a.m. April 5. Rev. Betsy Stow, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will provide the message, and a community breakfast will be hosted at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 26 Church St., immediately following the service. First United Methodist Church will hold its regular Easter service at 10 a.m.
