Macon County students headed back to school on Monday, Aug. 25.
“The first day of school was full of excitement and joy across Macon County schools. I was able to see smiles in the car rider lines, warm welcomes from teachers, and the joy of friends reconnecting after the summer,” said Superintendent Josh Lynch. “Our classrooms were filled with energy and enthusiasm, and it was clear that students, parents, faculty and staff were all eager to begin a new year of learning.
Lynch said the school system welcomed back close to 4,400 students. “I am confident that 2025–2026 will be a year of growth, achievement and success for our school community,” he said.
With work continuing through last week, crews were able to complete the work on the student parking lot at Franklin High School for the opening of school.
The school system is still looking for drivers for several bus routes. Anyone interested in being a bus driver can contact Todd Gibbs at the Central Office, 828-524-3314.
Students, faculty and school staff will get their first holiday on Monday, Sept. 1 as schools will be closed for Labor Day.
