Two relay teams nailed regional-qualifying times in Franklin’s first swim meet of the season.
The girls 200-yard medley relay kicked things off Nov. 23 at Franklin Health & Fitness. Ilah Williams, Claire Holland, Deaven Lombard and Callie Roper combined to win the event with a time of 2 minutes, 11 seconds. It was 1.99 seconds under the threshold to qualify for regional.
Later in the meet, the boys 200 freestyle relay won their event and landed a regional berth. Hunter Cabe, Traveler Shaw, Caden Tyler and Clayton Guynn finished in 1:45.04. The automatic regional time for the event is 1:45.99.
Franklin’s teams won the season-opening meet. The girls scored 211 points to top Tri-County Early College (66), Murphy (54) and Smoky Mountain (41).
The boys scored 229, easily beating Smoky Mountain (52) and Tri-County (32).
Individual winners for the girls were Nya Canzone (200 free), Holland (200 IM) and Lombard (500 free).
Individual winners for the boys were Shaw (200 free), Cabe (100 fly, 200 IM), Guynn (50 free, 100 breast), Tyler (500 free) and Isaiah Stockton (100 free).
FHS returns to the pool Wednesday. The Panthers will compete against Tuscola at the Waynesville Recreation Center.
They’ll also compete Saturday at Murphy.
