Panthers bring home WNC Sports Awards

    Franklin was well-represented at this year’s WNC Sports Awards. On May 25, the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club hosted its 63rd annual banquet at Asheville’s Omni Grove Park Inn, honoring the region’s best high school athletes. There, Laura Covarrubias earned the Division I Female Academic Award, edging out her fellow Panther finalist, Aubrey Haley. The seniors also helped their track and field teammates earn Division I Female Olympic Sport Team of the Year. In total, eight Panther individuals and two different teams gained recognition for their achievements both on and off the field. (Photos submitted)
