The Franklin Amateur Swim Team is halfway through its regular season.
On June 19, the FAST Fins returned to the Macon County Rec Park to host the Jackson County Swim Team and Cherokee County Aquatic Club. With their third straight win Franklin stands just two more away from an unbeaten season.
Malachi Norris led the way in the 6 & under age group for FAST, winning the boys 25-yard freestyle in 32.38 seconds. On the girls side Hailey Janoe placed second in 28.52.
Owen Baillio impressed for the 8 & under boys, winning the 25 free (20.75), 25 breaststroke (25.36) and 25 butterfly (27.00). Matthew Pena claimed the 50 free (53.32) and 100 individual medley (2:34.31), while Baillio also placed second in the 25 back (28.63). On the girls side Abigail Samuelson won the 25 breast (28.79) and placed third in the 100 IM (2:22.30).
Emerson Maddrey led the way in the 9-10 age group, placing first in the 50 back (54.36) and third in the 50 free (43.19). On the girls side Blake Olivia Ruiz won the 50 fly (1:05.97).
Several Fins won events in the 11-12 age group, led by Madelyn Kennedy in the girls 50 free (34.80), 50 fly (44.67) and 100 IM (1:35.57). Larken Lynch claimed the 100 free (1:22.50), while Leila Pinkston took home the 50 breast (46.84). On the boys side Nathan Jessup placed first in the 50 breast (47.28), and second in the 50 free (35.14), 50 fly (48.03) and 100 IM (1:35.30).
Lana Walker dominated the 13-14 age group, winning the girls 100 free (1:08.66), 100 breast (1:29.29) and 200 IM (2:48.04). Anna Sharpe placed first in the 100 fly (2:25.02) and third in the 100 back (2:01.26). On the boys side Thatcher Daniels placed first in the 200 IM (2:27.09), and second in the 50 free (25.94) and 100 fly (1:07.72).
Several Fins won events in the 15-18 age group, led by three apiece from Kenna Keyworth and Gavin Alverson. On the girls side Keyworth claimed the 50 free (27.81), 100 fly (1:10.99) and 200 IM (2:42.79), while Alyse Remery placed first in the 100 back (1:15.17) and second in the 100 fly (1:24.17).
On the boys side Alverson won the 100 back (1:07.45), 100 fly (1:04.49) and 200 IM (2:29.05), while Malik Walker took home the 100 free (57.05). Gabriel Ostojic placed first in the 100 breast (1:18.06), second in the 50 free (26.45) and third in the 100 free (1:02.07).
As a team Franklin dominated the overall meet, earning 775.5 points to Jackson’s 287 and Cherokee’s 153.5. The Fins will return to the rec park this Thursday, June 26, to host Cherokee and the Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club (Waynesville).
