Another stellar season has ended for the Franklin Amateur Swim Team.
After winning an incredible 19th-straight Mountain Swim League title the previous week, on July 22 an elite group of FAST Fins traveled to Sylva’s Roscoe Poteet Pool for the MSL All-Star Meet, featuring the best swimmers from all five MSL teams. Having qualified for All-Stars by meeting strict time standards in each event throughout the season, FAST got a chance to race against their best competition of the year.
In the 8 & under age group, two boys led the way for FAST, with David Hernandez winning the 25-yard freestyle in 19.84 seconds and Avery Dockery claiming the 25-yard backstroke in 22.83. Dockery also placed third in the 25 breaststroke (32.07) and fourth in both the 25 freestyle (23.29) and 50 freestyle (55.07).
In the 9-10 age group, Madelyn Kennedy placed third in the girls 50 breaststroke (53.45), while Nathan Jessup finished fifth in the boys 50 freestyle (43.52).
Thatcher Daniels dominated the 11-12 boys, winning the 50 freestyle (28.17), 100 individual medley (1:14.98), 50 breaststroke (38.69) and 50 butterfly (33.90). On the girls side, Lana Walker won the 50 butterfly (37.04) and placed second in each of the 50 freestyle (32.01), 100 freestyle (1:13.89) and 100 IM (1:23.71). Rylee Rogers won the 50 breaststroke (40.54) and 50 backstroke (39.52) and placed third in both the 100 IM (1:29.30) and 50 freestyle (33.90).
Colby Tyler led the way in the 13-14 age group, winning the girls 100 backstroke by nearly 10 seconds (1:18.97) and the 100 breaststroke (1:28.36). Tyler also placed second in the 50 freestyle (30.00) and third in the 100 freestyle (1:09.17).
In the 15-18 age group, Luke Borgmann and Claire Ballard continued stellar seasons for the Fins. On the boys side, Borgmann won the 100 butterfly by nearly eight seconds (57.20), the 100 backstroke by more than nine seconds (58.39), the 50 freestyle (23.12) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.89). Ballard won the 100 backstroke by more than eight seconds (1:04.16), the 100 breaststroke by more than seven seconds (1:14.08), the 100 butterfly (1:08.87) and the 50 freestyle (25.95).
FAST earned the second-most points of any team, falling to Highlands 293-258.
