The Franklin Amateur Swim Team has earned another win.
Having defeated Highlands in their season opener the previous week, on June 12 the team returned to the Macon County Rec Park. In routing Waynesville’s Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club, the FAST Fins improved to 2-0 this regular season.
Hailey Janoe and Malachi Norris led the way in the 6 & under age group, winning the girls and boys 25-yard freestyle for FAST. While Norris edged SMAC’s DJ Core by less than two tenths of a second (32.17-32.34), Janoe beat the second-place finisher with more than 12 seconds to spare (27.93).
Ali Janoe dominated the 8 & under events, winning the girls 25 free (20.84), 25 breaststroke (32.12) and 50 free (54.95). She also finished second in the 100 individual medley (2:20.03).
On the boys side Matthew Pena won the 100 IM (2:48.78), while Owen Baillio took home the 25 breast (26.00). Baillio placed second in the 25 backstroke (26.46), 25 butterfly (27.60) and 25 free (20.35), while Pena finished third in the 25 fly (35.18) and 50 free (1:01.44).
Three different FAST boys won events in the 9-10 age group, including Emerson Maddrey in the 50 back (53.68), Xzavier Rios in the 100 free (2:03.98) and David Hernandez in the 100 IM (2:26.75). Maddrey placed second in the 50 free (44.16) and 50 breast (1:02.77), while Rios finished second in the 50 back (57.49).
On the girls side Hanna Samuelson took second in the 100 IM (1:54.82), while Nyla Rivera placed third in the 100 IM (2:05.32) and 50 fly (1:01.13).
Madelyn Kennedy impressed in the 11-12 age group, winning the girls 50 fly (40.92), 50 breast (46.43) and 100 IM (1:36.32). Abeline Maddrey took home the 50 back (44.96) and placed second in the 50 fly (50.16), while Kennedy took second in the 50 free (34.53).
On the boys side Nathan Jessup placed first in the 100 IM (1:38.70), second in the 50 fly (51.09) and 50 free (33.80), and third in the 100 free (1:23.32).
FAST dominated the 13-14 age group, winning all 12 of its individual events. On the boys side Thatcher Daniels won the 100 fly (1:09.96), 100 back (1:08.57) and 200 IM (2:30.48), while Jacob Rivera took the 50 free (33.21), 100 free (1:18.38) and 100 breast (1:35.00).
On the girls side Lana Walker won the 100 breast (1:32.24), 100 fly (1:21.04) and 200 IM (2:54.65), while Emma Ballard took the 50 free (33.76) and 100 free (1:18.49). Ann Marie Hinton claimed the 100 back (1:39.12), and placed second in the 50 free (36.07) and 100 free (1:22.29).
FAST’s 15-18 age group also won all 12 events, led by Zoi Walker in the girls 50 free (26.28), 100 free (1:03.79) and 200 IM (2:36.10). Izabelle Scruggs won the 100 fly (1:43.36) and 100 breast (1:37.25), while Alyse Remery claimed the 100 back (1:17.40).
On the boys side Jonah Brant won the 100 free (59.43) and 100 breast (1:16.75), while Malik Walker claimed the 50 free (25.39) and 100 fly (1:09.01). Gavin Rinker took home the 200 IM (2:30.89), while Jackson Word took home the 100 back (1:09.10).
As a team FAST dominated the meet, outscoring the Salamanders 839-374. They’ll return to the Macon County Rec Park June 19 for a three-team meet with Jackson and Cherokee counties.
