The Franklin Amateur Swim Team is nearing another unbeaten season.
On June 26 the FAST Fins returned to the Macon County Rec Park, hosting the Smoky Mountain (Waynesville) and Cherokee County Aquatic Clubs. With their fourth straight victory Franklin entered the last week of their regular season, needing just one more win for their 17th straight perfect campaign.
Hailey Janoe and Malachi Norris led the way in the 6 & under age group, winning the girls and boys 25-yard freestyle in 29.29 and 30.51 seconds, respectively.
In the 8 & under age group FAST’s girls won all six individual events, led by Ali Janoe in the 25 free (21.56), 50 free (53.55) and 25 butterfly (29.59). Abigail Samuelson claimed the 25 backstroke (27.47) and 100 medley (2:23.60), while BriElla Pike took home the 25 breaststroke (31.31).
On the boys side Owen Baillio matched Ali Janoe’s three wins, claiming the 25 free (20.20), 25 breast (24.93) and 25 back (28.47). Sebastian Hernandez placed first in the 50 free (51.30), and second in the 25 free (22.29), 25 breast (31.76) and 25 fly (26.34).
David Hernandez also earned three wins for the 9-10 boys, including the 50 free (41.88), 100 free (1:45.26) and 50 fly (1:07.60). Knox Strum took home the 50 breast (56.43) and 100 medley (1:53.53). On the girls side Nyla Rivera placed second in the 100 medley (1:57.24) and third in the 100 free (1:44.80).
For the 11-12 girls Leila Pinkston claimed the 50 breast (46.65) and 100 free (1:42.64), while Abeline Maddrey took home the 50 fly (46.58). On the boys side Nathan Jessup placed third in the 50 fly (49.87), 50 back (40.74), 50 free (36.21) and 100 free (1:27.04).
Two Fins won multiple events in the 13-14 girls, inclduing Emma Ballard in the 50 free (34.72) and 100 fly (1:45.59), and Lana Walker in the 100 breast (1:29.59) and 200 medley (2:48.56). On the boys side Jacob Rivera placed second in the 50 free (31.53), while Ethan Malan placed second in the 100 breast (1:35.37).
Kenna Keyworth earned three wins in the 15-18 girls, including the 50 free (28:30), 100 fly (1:09.97) and 200 medley (2:42.72). Alyse Remery took home the 100 back (1:16.19), while Dalila Canzone claimed the 100 free (1:10.89).
On the boys side Franklin claimed all three individual events, led by Gavin Alverson in the 50 free (25.49) and 100 back (1:08.37). The Fins also got wins from Gavin Rinker in the 200 medley (2:31.73), Jonah Brant in the 100 breast (1:14.33), Malik Walker in the 100 free (57.93) and Jackson Word in the 100 fly (1:04.83).
Overall FAST easily won the three-team meet, scoring 792 points to SMAC’s 278 and CCAC’s 108. The Fins will return to the Macon County Rec Park July 3 to host Highlands and Jackson County in their last regular-season meet.
