Another season for the Franklin Amateur Swim Team is in the books.
After claiming their 17th-straight Mountain Swim League title at the MSL championship meet July 17, the majority of F.A.S.T.’s swimmers hung up their goggles until next summer. For a few, another meet loomed large as an opportunity to administer bragging rights.
On Saturday July 24, a few dozen MSL swimmers and coaches gathered at the Sylva Community Pool for the Mountain Swim League All-Star Meet, pitting the league’s top finishers in each event against each other one final time. Against their counterparts from the Cherokee County Aquatic Center team, Jackson County Swim Team, and Highlands Hurricanes, the F.A.S.T. All-Stars faced some tough competition from the best swimmers in the MSL. Although Franklin did not earn the most points at the meet – Highlands scored 456 to Franklin’s 420.5 – F.A.S.T.’s coaches said they were proud of their swimmers for another successful season.
“Our kids had a great finish at All-Stars despite missing last year’s season due to the pandemic,” said Dwain Picou.
“[We’re] just so thankful for a wonderful summer season, and that we were able to take so many to All-Stars,” added Dina Picou. “We’re looking forward to more great swims to come.”
