Franklin High School’s girls grew Bigger, Faster and Stronger this year. As part of coach Anna Shields’ regular BFS class, female students practice physical fitness, weight training and mental toughness, including a 30-minute run without walking once per week. At the end of the semester, students who complete the challenge each week receive a certificate and a T-shirt for their hard work. One person from Shields’ three classes can win a Most Valuable Runner award, with Evelyn Martinez being named the top runner overall. “Evelyn is a blessing to have in class,” said Shields, who is in her 40th year of teaching in Macon County. “Her work ethic, attitude and motivation are unmatched on a daily basis. Students like Evelyn are a true blessing to teach.” (Photos courtesy of Anna Shields)
