Local canoer makes history

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics slalom competitions wrapped up Thursday, July 29 at the Kasai Slalom Center. For Evy Leibfarth, 17, of Bryson City, the experience was an amazing one as the first American woman to compete in the debut of the women’s canoe slalom events.

F.A.S.T. All-Stars end season

Another season for the Franklin Amateur Swim Team is in the books. After claiming their 17th-straight Mountain Swim League title at the MSL championship meet July 17, the majority of F.A.S.T.’s swimmers hung up their goggles until next summer.

F.A.S.T. back in action

The Franklin Amateur Swim Team is back in action again. After a lost 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Franklin’s community swim team, known as F.A.S.T., is competing for the first time in two years.

Another FHS athlete has signed an offer with a college program. In her time playing softball and volleyball for Franklin, senior Amy Tippett has been a part of some excellent Panther teams.

Brooks returns to FHS

A Franklin High School fixture is returning to his longtime post.  When head football coach Josh Brooks announced his intent to step down from the top job last month, it appeared the reign of FHS’s all-time winningest coach would come to an end.
