Epic win for FHS softball

Panther softball are winners in walk-off grand slam fashion. On the final week of March, they faced three familiar foes, with games versus Murphy, Smoky Mountain and West Henderson.

Softball routs foes 25-4

Three more games and three blowout wins are in the books for Panther softball. On the week of March 20, Franklin had three games on the schedule, an away rematch with Hiwassee Dam and home Mountain Seven contests with Pisgah and North Henderson.

Baseball pays East back

Vengeance is a dish best served cold. On the week of March 20, Panther baseball had just one team to prepare for, opening their conference schedule in a home-and-away series with Mountain Seven rival East Henderson.

Track and Field attends WNC Kickoff at Western

In one of their biggest meets of the year, Panther track and field put on a show. At the WNC Kickoff Invitational hosted by Swain at Western Carolina University March 24, roughly 1,000 athletes from two dozen local teams gathered for an early-season litmus test.
A recent change in policy will allow Macon County students to play at schools other than the one where they are enrolled. This would allow students such as those at Macon Early College and Union Academy that do not have athletic teams to play sports at another county school.

Policy update opens field for student athletes

Students in Macon County Schools can now participate in sports at schools other than their own following a decision by the Macon County Board of Education on Dec. 13.

Cross Country runs to regionals

Panther cross country is headed to the 3A West Regional. At the Mountain 7 Conference Championship meet Oct. 19 at Jackson Park in Hendersonville, Franklin’s distance runners butted heads with their M7C rivals for conference bragging rights from now until next year’s championship.

Tennis advances to second round

Panther women’s tennis has advanced to the second round of the state playoffs.

Panthers lose shootout

After falling to Smoky Mountain at home Oct. 15, on Oct. 22 Panther football travelled to West Henderson for their second-to-last game of the regular season. In a 40-34 shootout with the Mountain 7 Conference-rival Falcons, Franklin came just one score short to fall to 5-4 on the season.

Volleyball prepares for M7 tournament

Lady Panther volleyball have played their last two matches of the regular season. Against Murphy Oct. 11 and the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School Oct. 12, Bekah Brooks’ had one final opportunity to build momentum ahead of the Mountain 7 Conference tournament the following week.
