The first weekend in August is all about “nothin but a good time” for a good cause. Celebrating its 10th year in 2024, 80s Flashback Weekend is an annual fundraiser for Shriners Children’s Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. Last year the weekend of events raised more than $27,000 for the hospital, which serves more than 125 Macon County children.
The weekend includes two nights of live music, a parade and 5K, in addition to several local businesses hosting their own events to support the fundraiser.
The 5K will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3 with registration beginning at 8 a.m. and the race at 9 a.m. Registration at the starting point will be at Tassee Shelter on the Little Tennessee River Greenway, 877 Ulco Dr., Franklin. Early registration and packet pickup also will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 at Outdoor 76 on Main Street.
Registration is $30 before Aug. 2 and $40 on race day ($20 without T-shirt, supplies are limited on race day). Register online at runsignup.com. Before registering, please be sure you will be able to race that day and no refunds are provided since this is a fundraiser.
Racers must finish the 5K within one hour. Timing will be “chip timing” and timing will be hosted by Finish Well Timing
