Edwards recaps first weeks in D.C.

As the new Congress convened this month, newly elected Western North Carolina Rep. Chuck Edwards plans on taking his work ethic from his time as a state senator in Raleigh to Washington, D.C.

Legislators speak on 2023 session

Starting this month, state Rep. Karl Gillespie and Sen. Kevin Corbin, both Franklin Republicans, will be making the roughly 600-mile round-trip journey to Raleigh each week for the North Carolina General Assembly’s biennium long session.

County approves Nantahala plans

After what Nantahala residents feel like was too long without action, on Dec. 13, the Macon County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved going forward with quarter-million-dollar renovations to the Nantahala Library/Community Center.

Flu cases on the rise

North Carolina experienced an early surge in flu cases this year. High levels of RSV, flu, strep and rhinovirus/enterovirus have been reported across the state, and Macon County Public Health has seen the same trend.

Winter Wonderland in Franklin

The Town of Franklin will officially welcome the holidays during Winter Wonderland, a two-night event held in downtown Franklin on consecutive Saturdays, Nov. 26 and Dec. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. each evening.

Franklin Christmas parade set for Nov. 27

The Franklin Chamber of Commerce will officially ring in the holiday season with the annual Christmas parade beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27. Entries will line up along Church Street behind the Courthouse. The route will begin by pulling out on the top of Town Hill beside Town Hall.

Peak Leaf Season

Western North Carolina is always beautiful, but in October, residents anticipate, and visitors arrive from around the world to see more than 200 species of trees dressed in colors that can be found in Crayola crayons: red-violet, goldenrod, asparagus, yellow-orange and more.
