The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is accepting public input on a proposal that would permit hunting in three bear sanctuaries, including the Standing Indian sanctuary in Macon County. Pisgah and Panthertown-Bonas Defeat are the other sanctuaries included in the proposal.

CDC reduces quarantine guidelines

The Centers for Disease Control are now recommending that people who test positive for COVID-19 quarantine for five days, a reduction from their previous 10-day guideline.

Sen. Kevin Corbin announced Monday morning he would not make a bid for U.S. Congress and will file to run for re-election serving State Senate District 50.
In the recent redistricting of the state, Macon County became part of a new 14th U.S. Congressional district.

Lodging taxes collections continue to increase

Going into the fall leaf season, the Franklin Tourism Development Authority continues to see an increase in hotel tax collections.
During the first two months of the new 2021-2022 fiscal year (July and August), the TDA received $34,652.45 in hotel tax collections.
