Several emergency agencies responded to the Little Tennessee River Greenway in reference to a deceased person on July 3. Franklin Police Department, Macon County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, Franklin Fire & Rescue and Cowee Fire & Rescue’s swift river rescue team were on the scene off Riverview Street, about a quarter mile from the Greenway’s northern terminus at Arthur Drake Road.
A kayaker reported a body in the river about 10:14 a.m. Monday. FPD Chief Devin Holland confirmed a body was recovered from the Little Tennessee River and said it is thought to be a person who was reported missing on July 2.
The missing person was a 19-year-old Hispanic male who was last seen on July 1 around 4 a.m. on the Greenway. FPD says the investigation is continuing and no foul play is suspected.
