Trust in process pays off

Andy Scheidler sports@thefranklinpress.com Noah Sitton started the year at quarterback. The Franklin senior moved to tight end when sophomore Chris McGuire came back from an injury, but Sitton got to make a memorable throw in his final game in the Panther Pit.

Coach: 2019 a year of growth for middle schoolers

Andy Scheidler sports@thefranklinpress.com A shutout loss at home ended Macon Middle School’s football season.  The Panthers finished 1-7.  “It was a growing year for the players and the coaches,” said Cody Viar, who was in his first season as the team’s head coach.

FHS snaps 2-A playoff skid

Panthers push Brevard in finale

Andy Scheidler sports@thefranklinpress.com The screams, cheers and overall noise after each point were nearly deafening.  Franklin’s volleyball came out with a very vocal crowd support during Wednesday’s championship match against Brevard in the Mountain Six Conference tournament.

This will be the Franklin senior’s third trip to the Pinehurst area for the state tournament.

State bound again

  Thick fog blanketed Mountain Glen Golf Club in Newland on Monday morning. When Alex Torres and her Franklin teammates teed off at 9 a.m., they could only see about 50-75 yards in front of them, which made tracking tee shots extremely difficult.

MMS soccer wins tourney title

Andy Scheidler sports@thefranklinpress.com When the third goal went into the net, Macon Middle School players on the field and on the sideline went crazy, jumping and celebrating wildly.  Flat Rock players sunk to their knees and laid on their backs in disbelief, knowing the game was over.

Dedication recognition

Alison Knop slammed 263 kills during her junior season, which led Franklin and ranked third in the conference.  This season, despite having 200 fewer chances, the 5-foot-10 outside hitter has nine more kills. Her kills and hitting percentages are higher, which she attributes to a few factors.

‘Great dynamic’

It’s all about redemption.  Franklin’s soccer team is focusing on that word, whether it’s playing an opponent who beat earlier this season or last year.

Franklin native wins 50K

Canyon Woodward is a vegetarian who estimates the last time he ate meat was more than a year ago.  But after being the first person to cross the finish line at The Naturalist 50K, he couldn’t help but celebrate the euphoric feeling.  “It was so good.
