Planning Board discusses floodplain, control plan

The Macon County Planning Board began conversations regarding two proposed ordinances. During the March 7 Planning Board meeting, Commissioner Josh Young brought up both proposals to the board. The first was relaxing the rule barring outside fill dirt from being used in a floodplain.

School system to ask for $2.5 million budget increase

Local art, music and STEAM teachers, mental health professionals, an athletic coaching supplement and employee raises would account for a requested $2.5 million jump in local funding for the coming school year.

Town approves temporary housing permit

The Franklin Town Council approved an amendment Monday night that will make things easier for people renovating or building a new home. The amendment will allow people to temporarily live in an RV or camper while working on their house.

TDA supports spring hiker activities

During its February meeting, the Franklin Tourism Development Authority approved $5,200 in funding to support activities during the upcoming Appalachian Trail hiking season and for advertising for the unveiling of the Women’s History Trial sculpture.

School Board plans ‘carousel of arts’

Repairs needed at Macon County Public Library

A crew will make a full assessment of the overhang entrance and part of the ceiling and roof of the Macon County Public Library. Macon County’s Project Manager Jack Morgan told the commissioners during the board’s Feb. 13 meeting that after he looked at it, the work is “above what he can do.
