Macon Middle School will have a new principal when the next school year begins in August.
Current principal Kevin Bailey has submitted his resignation effective June 30.
Bailey was suspended with pay on April 8. The reason for the suspension has remained confidential as it is a personnel issue, but school board officials have said it is not due to any illegal activity or anything involving a student.
Bailey was in his first year as principal at the Middle School and previously worked as the human resources director for Jackson County Schools.
Mark Sutton has been serving as interim principal at Macon Middle School. Sutton is principal at Macon Early College. With Sutton at MMS, South Macon Elementary Assistant Principal Brian Moffitt has been serving as interim principal at MEC.
“I am pleased with the present direction of both MMS and MEC, but a final decision has not been made for next year at either location,” Superintendent Chris Baldwin said. “I expect to have a recommendation to the board at the June meeting.”
Bailey’s resignation was approved as part of the personnel report presented at the May 23 School Board meeting.
