CANDLER – William Hoyt Woodard, 81, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2020 at CarePartners Solace Center.
A native of Macon County, he was a son of the late William and Nina Brooks Woodard. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Guyer, as well as three brothers, Cleve, Joe and Jack Woodard.
A U.S. Army veteran, Hoyt was the owner and operator of Asheville Powertrain for 36 years as well as owner and operator of Hayes & Hopson Auto Supply for 14 years. He served on several boards and committees to include the Automotive Aftermarket Association of the Mid-South and Power Heavy Duty of America.
Hoyt is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Garnetta Vanhook Woodard; two sons, William Hoyt Woodard Jr. (Stephanie) of Asheville and Barry Earl Woodard (Susan) of Cary; three grandchildren, Savannah, Meredith and Will Woodard; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A public graveside service was held Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020 at Riverview Methodist Church Cemetery.
