FRANKLIN - Wanda Kay Hopkins Dalrymple, 75, went home to be with Jesus Friday, July 1, 2022. She was born in Gastonia, to the late Charlie and Ruby Hopkins. Wanda was an active member of Cartoogechaye Baptist Church, where she enjoyed working with children and the ladies WMU group. She was dedicated to making lap quilts for the young and old. Quilts have been sent out of state and country as well as our community and state. She loved the “small church bells.” When the big church bell got broken, she and a friend bought another one in Wisconsin and had it put up beside the church.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Troy Dalrymple; sisters, Geneta Rogers (Claude), Mary Ernesteen Clemmer (Jim, deceased) and Carolyn Shope (Wade); brother, Steve Joe Arthur Hopkins (Patricia); and many loving cousins, nephews and nieces.

Wanda went to school at Lowell Main Elementary School and Lowell High School in Lowell. She began working in the cotton mills in the Piedmont. She later worked at Macon County Supply and Ace Hardware. She also worked at several other retail stores.

She was an avid bowler who traveled to play in tournaments. She also played community league softball. She loved playing all kinds of board games including Yahtzee, dominoes, and cards. She loved the outdoors and Jeep riding. Hiking and looking for ginseng were a joyful past time.

The family received friends on Tuesday, July 5 at Macon Funeral Home. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 6 at Cartoogechaye Baptist Church. Pastors Steve Reeves, Brian Southard and Randy Campbell officiated. Burial followed at Maiden’s Chapel Cemetery.

Timothy Frady, Ken Shepherd, Rick Rogers, David Rogers, Cody Rogers and Donald Waldroop served as pallbearers. Tony Bryson, Sam Coward, John DeNiear, Ronnie Dowdle, Jerry Hodgins and Nova Talley served as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cartoogechaye Baptist Church Live Nativity program or the WMU Quilt Ministry.

Online condolences can be made at maconfuneralhome.com. Macon Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
