SYLVA - Peggy Crawford Jones, 83, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022. She was born in Jackson County on June 12, 1939, to the late Allen and Janie Cogdill Crawford.

Peggy graduated from Mars Hill College magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in education. She loved teaching at Scotts Creek School where she taught for 32 years. Peggy loved music, singing, shopping and socializing with family and friends. She was a member of Scotts Creek Baptist Church. Peggy was very involved in the church, especially the choir. She loved the Lord.

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Kay Desormeaux of Sylva and Lynn Jones Fish (Scott Stamey) of Franklin; grandchildren, Jessica Brown (Coleman Daves), Morgan Hall (Austin) and Tyler Desormeaux (Mallory); great-grandchildren, Ericka Reed and Kadan Hart; nieces, Kim Jones Hensley and Crystal Cochran; and several first cousins.

In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Annas Jones; and brother, Bennie Crawford.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services. Rev. Charles Stevens, Rev. JD Grant, and Curtis Blanton officiated. The family received friends prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Queen, Miranda Cook, and her caregiver, Missy Stillwell.

Pallbearers were Robert Dyer, John Freeman, Neal Sellers, Coleman Daves, Austin Hall and Tyler Desormeaux. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Siske and Scott Stamey.
