LILLINGTON - Mary Elizabeth Henry Cabe, 104, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Jan. 10, at Universal Health Care.

She was born July 12, 1915, in Franklin, and was the daughter of the late Noah Love Henry and Hulda Talley Henry. Mrs. Cabe attended North Carolina public schools in the area. 

She was married July 4, 1934, to the late Mell J. Cabe, who passed away June 22, 1978.

Mrs. Cabe was a homemaker, and she and her husband always had a big garden and provided fresh vegetables for all the children and many neighbors. She also helped reputable families with child care and housekeeping needs. She was known for her great food dishes and hand-sewn quilts and showed her love through these talents and caretaking of family members. 

In 1988, she moved from Franklin to the Fuquay-Varina area beside her son, Wade N. Cabe, and his wife, the late Doris Cabe, who provided any help and transportation she needed until 2011, when declining health required the move to Universal Health Care in Lillington.

Mrs. Cabe is survived by her son, J. Wilbur Cabe and wife, Anna of Statesville and son Wade N. Cabe of Fuquay-Varina; three grandchildren, Jacob W. Cabe Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, Michael Shane Cabe of Fuquay-Varina, Rebecca Cabe Butler (Linc) of Mebane; 10 great-grandchildren, Jacob Logan Butler of Greensboro, Caroline Jolie Cabe and Riley Cabe of Fort Worth, Texas, Connor D. Butler, Emma Butler and Sydney Butler of Mebane, Zach Cabe (Chesley) of Buies Creek, Josh Cabe of Lillington, and Rachel Cabe and Michela Cabe of Raleigh.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cabe was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Henry Norton, Eva Henry Angel and Elsie Henry Ballew, and four brothers, George, Nick, Ted and Ed Henry.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at Drymans Chapel UMC with the Rev David DeWitt, pastor, and the Rev Melinda Ivey, pastor of Kipling UMC, officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. 

Interment will follow in Drymans Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bob Henry, Junior Cabe, Joe Ballew, Tommy Keener, Greg Moore and Bill Harkins.
