NANTAHALA - Louise Owenby Day, 88, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022, at her residence. She was a native of Nantahala. Louise had lived in Lake Orion, Michigan, before returning to North Carolina. Most recently, she would be recognized from the Aquone and White Oak recycling centers. She was an active member of Briartown Baptist Church, where she served as song leader and custodian and was active visiting shut-ins. Louise loved farming, working in her flowers, and quilting.

Louise was the daughter of the late General Wheeler and Delphia Cochran Owenby and the wife of the late Cecil H. Day, who died Aug. 11, 2009. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Pauline Jones, Inez Bateman and Ruth Day; and brothers, Eugene and Newell Owenby.

Surviving are a daughter, Joan McMahan and husband Keith of Hayesville; son, Roger Day and wife Rachel of Metamora, Michigan; sister, Wanda Ballew of Murphy; beloved grandchildren, Jon Apker, Jeremy Day, Courtney English, and Preston and Eric McDowell; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Briartown Baptist Church with the Rev. Bo Phillips officiating. The interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Day, Preston McDowell, Eric McDowell, Ben English and Donald Cross.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Ivie Funeral Home in Andrews where the body will be until placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Louise Owenby Day to the Andrews VFW Post 7620, PO Box 519, Andrews, NC 28901.
