ODESSA, FLORIDA - Kirk Rawlins Mitchell, 57, of Odessa, Florida, passed away May 18, 2020. He was born in Tampa, Florida on July 28, 1962 to Elsie (Davis) Mitchell Gray and Robert Mitchell. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1980 and went on to Western Carolina University, where he earned a degree in computer science.

Kirk was a true free spirit with an infectious laugh, who never met a stranger. He always enjoyed learning new skills and once he set his mind on something, he didn’t stop until he mastered it. He was famous among friends and family for his homemade fruit wines, which he paired with his homemade cheeses. He had a black belt in taekwondo and learned massage therapy, but his true passion was music. He taught himself to fluently play the guitar, keyboard and even the flute. He played with many local bands, and could play a mean Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. He was a man of many talents with only his imagination to stop him.

He is survived by his brother, Bill (Lorea) Mitchell of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Kathy (Nix) Wellons of Sebring, Florida; sister, Holly (Jim) Piller of Spartanburg, South Carolina; four nephews, two nieces and a host of friends.

He is predeceased by both parents, and a brother, Robert Perry Mitchell.

In lieu of a traditional funeral, a private celebration of his life will be held at a later time.
