FRANKLIN – Joe Rambo, 81, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, at his son and daughter-in-law’s house in Powder Springs, Georgia.

He was the son of the late Ken and Nancy Rambo, born in Santa Rosa, California. He moved with his mom to Miami, Florida as a young child where he met and later married his loving wife Gayle Rambo. During their marriage they purchased a house on Buck Creek in 1975. A couple of years after his wife’s death he sold the home and moved to Franklin to be closer to his church, to which he devoted so much of his time, especially to help others in need. He started at CareNet making soups and lunches to feed those in need.

As a young man he joined the United States Coast Guard, and later he became a City of Miami firefighter. He then became one of the first paramedics in the state of Florida. His license number was 5, and he was very proud of that fact. Unless you asked, he would never boast about the lives he helped saved or the babies he delivered. He loved what he did.

On his off days, he had a custom window treatment business, and his gift of gab made him a good sales person. He recently beat stage 4 throat cancer, even though he had never smoked a day in his life. It saddens me that after his treatments were over, his quality of life was never the same. Near the end he was at peace with the thought that it was his time to pass on. He put his faith in God to help him die peacefully. He got his wish on Nov. 18, 2020. “We love you dad and miss you so much!”

He will have his ashes spread over his favorite reef for catching lobsters, Long Reef. Dad I hope you’re in heaven dancing like you did at your surprise 80th birthday party. Please give mom a kiss from us.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Nancy; his wife, Gayle Elizabeth Rambo; his son, Dann Reed Rambo; and granddaughter Katy Volin.

He is survived by his three sons, Scott Volin and his wife Sherry of Homestead, Florida; Ty Volin of Fort Pierce, Florida; and Joseph Brad Rambo and wife Debbie of Powder Springs, Georgia; by his sister, Diane Hansen Rambo of Wisconsin; his daughter-in-law, Maria Cordelli; his grandchildren, Joey Rambo and his wife Caty Rambo, Reed Rambo, Travis Rambo, Adam Rambo, and Kylie Volin; and great-granddaughter MacKenzie Rambo.
