THOMASVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA – John Harvey Guffey, 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Dec. 26, 2020.

He was born April 21, 1936 to the late Norman Thad Guffey and Mary Delena Bryant Guffey. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy Neal Guffey; sons John Keith (Christie), Dennis Edward and Brian Scott (Tammy); and daughter Corrina Jean Guffey Cox (Troy). He was preceded in death by daughter Sandra Lynn Guffey. 

Surviving grandchildren are Derek Godwin, Jason Guffey (Arlithia), Jennifer Guffey, Tosha Guffey Grogan, Ashley Absher (Brandon), Kenneth Guffey (Kendra), Colby Guffey and Daren Guffey. Surviving great-grandchildren are Kaitlyn Johnson, Lacie Lucas, Daven Guffey, Braxton Guffey, Faith Godwin, Jacob Smith, Taylor Jacoby, Maddie Moeller, Maggie Moeller, Zachary Chester, Cali Absher, Gracen Guffey, Coy Guffey. He is also survived by a great-great granddaughter, Ryleigh.

John worked for 41 years at Burlington Industries. After retiring, he worked at Elliott’s Florist for 15 years. He was a proud member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church for 30 years, a member of Men’s Sunday School Class and a deacon. John loved his Lord and family dearly. He was a wonderful husband and father.

He lay in state at Thomasville Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 29 from noon until 5 p.m. Funeral service will be at Carolina Memorial Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on  Wednesday, Dec. 30, conducted by Bynum Orr and Stuart White. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Carolina Memorial Baptist Church, 422 Liberty Drive, Thomasville, NC, 27360
