FRANKLIN - Jimmy Rodger Tippett, 83, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020. 

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late John Dee Tippett and Inez Morgan Tippett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Coleman Tippett. 

Jimmy loved fox hunting, bowling, mowing his grass, racing cars, and he loved his grandkids and family immensely. He was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and attended Watauga Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Laverne Young Tippett; his daughter, Kim Tippett Wilson of Franklin; two sisters, Carolyn Hixon and Glenda Gladwell, both of Franklin; five grandchildren, Brittany Mashburn (Clinton), Brooke Keener (BJ), Morgan Wilson, Matthew Wilson and John Wilson; four great-grandchildren, Kiley Mashburn, Rowen Keener, Kole Mashburn and Mason Mashburn; and one nephew and three nieces.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, March 11 in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home. The Revs. Roy Lowe, Morris Tippett and Wesley Price officiated. Burial was in the Watauga Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Clinton Mashburn, BJ Keener, Matthew Wilson, John Wilson, Paul Kinsland and Dale Young.

Honorary pallbearers were Sloan Wilson, Ray Sanders, Max Gladwell, Troy Ledford, Alvin Johnson and Doyle Young, and great grandsons, Rowen Keener and Kole Mashburn.
