GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA - Barbara Dianne Lakey passed away peacefully at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina on Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, while surrounded by friends and family.

Dianne was born in Rutherford County and graduated as a nurse from Gardner Webb College in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. She worked at Rutherford Hospital prior to relocating to Franklin.  Over a span of 42 years, Dianne worked at Angel Medical Hospital as a floor nurse then transferred to surgery. There she became Surgical Director then Infection Prevention Director. Because of her career in the health field, she touched the lives of many Macon County residents who loved her dearly for her kindness and care they were given. After retiring she moved to Greenville, North Carolina to be closer to her sister, Donna Storie and brother-in-law, Gary.

Dianne’s hobbies were painting, traveling, watching cooking channels and, of course, shopping. But her favorite hobby was going on cruises and beach trips with her best friend, Betty Rogers.

Dianne was preceded in death by her husband, Don Lakey, the love of her life for 28 years; her father, Herman Daniel; and mother, Ruby Daniel.

Due to Covid-19, there will be no funeral service.

Dianne had a loving compassion for dogs and requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Macon County Humane Society, 851 Lake Emory Road, Franklin, NC 28734.

Winterville Cremation and Funeral Services handled arrangements. Condolences can be made at wintervillefuneralcare.com.
