Woodard resigns

Franklin town manager Summer Woodard will be leaving her position this summer to take the position as city manager for Reidsville, North Carolina.

A Franklin native, Woodard has served as town manager since 2014. In addition to overseeing many aspects of town finances and operations, she has been actively involved in the Franklin Tourism Development Authority, the Macon County Tourism Development Commission, the Macon County Transit Board, REACH of Macon County, CareNet and the Rotary Club during her tenure.

“I have thought for some time that Summer would be sought after by another town,” mayor Bob Scott said. “She has the reputation of being an outstanding town manager, so it was only a matter of time. I cannot begin to tell you how much I will miss her.”

Woodard said that this new chapter in her career is a very recent development and that while she feels it is in her best professional interest, she will be leaving Franklin with a heavy heart. Her hope is that the staff she has grown close with over the last few years will continue their outstanding quality of work in her absence.

“It’s something that I just couldn’t pass up, even though I will dearly miss my hometown of Franklin,” Woodard said. “The employees here and their hard work are what gets us through the hard times. They will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Woodard will stay on in her current position until Monday, June 7 while she helps the town complete their budget process for the 2021-22 fiscal year. Her first day with the City of Reidsville will be Monday, June 14.
