Little Free Library dedicated at Macon Middle School

Macon County’s newest Little Free Library was dedicated on May 18 at Macon Middle School. The non-profit group Read2Me, through donations from Rotary Club of Franklin, installed the library, which is dedicated in honor of Clayton Higdon Ramsey. Ramsey was an educator of 34 years as a teacher, assistant superintendent, and the first principal of Macon Middle School. He had a lifelong passion for teaching, learning, farming, camping and horseback riding. The Little Free Library is located near the track at MMS.

Macon Middle School students built the library with help of Industrial Art teacher Jared Greenwood. Billy Vanhook and Carolina Custom Homes donated the shingles.

The library will be stocked with books collected by community members, children’s books donated to Read2Me, and books donated to the Friends of the Library.

Macon County is fortunate to have many Little Free Libraries throughout the County. The Hudson Library, Inc. recently installed several new little libraries in the Highlands area. The Friends of the Macon County Library have been instrumental in placing Little Free Libraries at the Franklin Town Hall, the Iotla Methodist Church, the Holly Springs Community Building, the Otto Community Development Organization, the Mulberry Methodist Church, Parker Meadows, and the Macon County Crawford Senior Center.

These libraries are conveniently located in great places for people of all ages to find good things to read. Everyone is encouraged to use the Little Free Libraries to find something to read, where they can “take a book and return a book.” If you’re not familiar with Little Free Libraries or you want to find the one closest to you, check out the website at www.littlefreelibrary.org.
