Events return to downtown Franklin

About 45 merchants and vendors are scheduled to participate in one of the first big events downtown since the governor lifted the COVID safety restrictions earlier this month.

The Streets of Franklin Heritage Association will present Hometown Spring Market Day on Saturday, May 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. downtown. Stores along Main Street will be participating as well as craft vendors, non-profits, and other small businesses.

“It is awesome to be able to get out and walk around,” said Gwen Taylor, president of Streets of Franklin. “People are coming back into town. It’s not only our tourists we are seeing, but we welcome our local folks back to downtown too.”

Market Day food vendors will include Sweet Caroline’s Mobile Ice Cream Shoppe, Cherry Berry (cotton candy and snow cones), Honeysuckle Bakehouse, and Brooklyn Bagels. The merchants association will be selling hot dogs and chips.

In addition to the vendors, Saturday’s event will include live music in front of Wells Fargo.

Local quilters will showcase their talents at the gazebo for the annual Airing of the Quilts.

Main Street and Porter Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday night also will see the return of one of downtown’s traditional events, Pickin’ on the Square. The J.W. Band will perform beginning at 7 p.m. at the gazebo. Bring a lawn chair.
